Climate Assessment Europe 2026
Climate shifts as coupled physical and societal systems.
European climate assessment covering regional climate and water impacts, societal costs and the Overshoot → Peak → Decline relationship.
Scope
Central Europe is treated as a coupled climate, water, infrastructure and societal system; regional differences remain explicit.
Evidence Domains
Temperature, precipitation, snow, soil moisture, hydrological storage, extreme events and costs are modeled separately.
Uncertainty
Measurements, projections, local extrapolations and normative priorities receive different evidence classes.
Result
The assessment produces not one forecast but a verifiable map of trends, dependencies, conflicts and open questions.
Extension and Reference Periods
The documented version adds UNEP's Overshoot → Peak → Decline perspective. Global statements using the 1850–1900 baseline remain distinct from regional comparisons using the 1991–2020 baseline; differing reference domains must not be treated as identical measurement scales.
Ecohydrological Memory
The preceding hydrometeorological state and long-term vegetation/soil condition jointly determine precipitation response. Assess forest damage, regeneration and clearing/soil interventions separately; forest loss does not universally imply lower retention.
Precipitation–Response Lag and Case Studies
Precipitation does not translate directly or proportionally into reservoir filling. Recovery Dynamics, Frauenau and differentiated Šumava cases extend the study. The September v3.1 delta is also integrated.
