Straubing Field Guide
The Danube, urban development and interventions as observation axes.
An editorial summary of the documented ROS application to Straubing: landscape, city, flooding, logistics and built conditions.
Reading the Landscape
Terraces, floodplains and transport axes frame the questions of urban development. Visible landforms are observations; historical causes require further evidence.
Distinguishing Systems
Roman sites, the historic town, flood protection and port logistics are examined as separate subsystems. A detailed downtown description does not replace investigation of the other areas.
Observing Interventions
For construction interventions, design intent, actual condition and observed effect must be recorded separately. Plans, construction sites and operations denote different states.
Feeding Findings Back into Research
New field observations receive source, location, time and a link to the open question. Changes are made in the canonical research state; the next guide is then regenerated from it.
