ROS / Nea Polis

Aerostats · From Platform Concept to Hypothesis Landscape

The case shows how ROS separates platform classes, physical principles, competing explanations and unverified effects—and why the assessment process itself needs a verified branching representation.

Conditional ROS FULL application using Dynamic Systems & Network Lens, LEVEL 2 and an explicit historical ROS@v1.7.2-TESTBASE pin dated October 15, 2026.

01

Problem & System Boundary

A general aerostat carrier concept is decomposed into a civilian tethered radio platform, altitude-adjustable free balloon, sensor carrier and generic scientific secondary platform. Shared buoyancy is not evidence of equivalent payload performance or economic viability.

02

Source Substrate & Hypotheses

H01–H05 and E01–E05 distinguish possible radio/persistence benefits, wind-dependent position control, partial energy effects and system trade-offs. Fundamental physics, documented experiments, manufacturer statements, model inference and unknown local effects remain different evidence levels.

03

Constraints & Adversarial Correction

Buoyancy, weather/mechanical loads, observability and resource balances are assessed before performance claims. Six findings prevent, among other errors, invalid transfers from stratospheric to near-ground conditions, from radar to passive SIGINT performance, and from onboard to total energy.

04

Applicable Flowchart

The report classifies the assessment process as REQUIRED: scope and sources → mechanism review → separate domain dimensions → constraints/counterfactuals → comparison data → partial evidence or conditional hypothesis. The graph represents a verification procedure, not flight control or additional causal proof.

05

Result & Status

A falsifiable but not field-validated hypothesis landscape with FULL_CONDITIONAL status. The subsequent normative release and new latest-version mapping change neither the historical TESTBASE pin nor automatically resolve the research artifact's open quality gates.
